The design brief:
To convert the existing sheet metal housed product into plastics housing such that:
1: The product is harmonizes with the domestic decor
2: The product is economical to manufacture
3: It is quick and simple to assemble
4: Production can be increased.
Design Process:
Initial concepts were presented as drawings and renderings.
The most appealing of the concepts was selected to convert into a working model.
This was then used along with detailed drawings to convert into toolings for injection molding in HIPS
There was an dramatic cost reduction by 3 times. Painting was eliminated and assembly time was greatly reduced, thereby increasing production volumes.
